Francesco Ciurlo studied with Marco Stroppa, Gabriele Manca and Giorgio Colombo Taccani. He was Composer in residence for Divertimento Ensemble's 2020 season and composer in residence at the Künstlerhof Schreyahn from 06/2021 to 12/2021. In 2022 a monographic CD will be released by Stradivarius. His music was performed, among others, by ensembles Musikfabrik, Divertimento, Multilatérale, Intecontemporain, Mdi, Meitar, Reconsil, Schallfeld, Josef Suk Quartet, the Milan Conservatory Orchestra, the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, the SWR Vokalensemble and soloists like Nicolas Hodges and Maria Grazia Bellocchio and conducted by Sandro Gorli, Léo Warynski, Yoichi Sugiyama, Clement Power, Mauro Bonifacio, James Wood, Johannes Kalitzke, Matthieu Mantanus and Marcus Creed, in important venues and festivals, among which the Lucerne Festival (2018), La Biennale di Venezia (2016) and Festival Manifeste (2019), ECLAT (2022) and recorded and broadcasted by SWR2, WDR3, SRF2, Deutschlandfunk, Rai Radio 3, NPO4 and RTP. He is winner of several composition prizes among which: Stuttgart Kompositionspreis, Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, the Milan Conservatory prize; Finalist in the Christoph Delz Wettbewerb; Matan Givol competition; Premio Trio di Trieste. He was selected to participate in Tenso Young Composers Workshop (2017), in the Université d’Altitude and in the Manifeste Academy at Ircam (2018-19). His music is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni – Sugarmusic S.p.a – Milan.
